A visit to Cape Town is not complete without a cruise down and around one of its oldest streets. Long Street, known to many as party central, is one of the oldest streets in Cape Town and stretches for 20 blocks. If you ever wanted to get a feel for the real Cape Town, to experience the ethnicity that makes the Mother City buzz; Long Street is where you need to go. In fact, check out this video of how we spent a whole day there.

Get your early morning nature kick with a little stroll through the Company’s Gardens, park off of a bench and chat to a squirrel or simply sit and enjoy the surroundings before heading to Long Street for that all-important cup of coffee. Cafés and coffee shops are scattered down the length of Long Street so take your pick from places like: Long Street Café, & Bikes Café, Lola’s, RCaffe or get your breakfast gluten fix at Loaves on Long- a new artisan eatery.

With your coffee fix sorted you can get serious about shopping and start it by a visit to the famous Green Market Square (just around the corner from Long Street). An interesting fact is that many of the first shops along Long Street were opened by people who had stalls at the famous Green Market Square. If you haven’t spent all your money at the market it’s time to get serious and visit some of the famous stores like Afraid of Mice, Mungo and Jemima, Sport and Surf, Board Hub, Merchants of Long, The African Music Store and so many more.

For the rest of the day, you can eat drink and be merry and find out exactly what Long Street is truly famous for as one of the busiest and most popular party destinations in Cape Town. Eat at the famous Mama Africa, The South China Dim Sum Bar, SGT Pepper Long Street, Baghdad Café or The Waiting Room. If you wanting to get started early then hit the newly opened vibey Tiger’s Milk for a beer and a burger, or spread love and visit as many of the famous bars and restaurants (you might need another day or two).

Check out: Neighbourhood, Fork Restaurant and Tapas Bar, Beerhouse, The Dubliner, Café Mojito, The Manila Bar and heaps more. This street is pulsing with the energy that is Cape Town, full of creativity, diversity and energy; so much so that you’ll be back again the next night.
