This was a great price for rental car required after personal car totaled in MVA. However, the experience with local Hertz rental company was horrible. The rental was prepaid through the website. When we arrived to pickup the vehicle (within the "grace period") we were told it was no longer available and they did not have any other cars available to replace it with. We asked why they gave away our prepaid reservation, even though we could see the acutal vehicle we booked still sitting on the lot. There was no reasonable or rational response given. Customer service was abysmal to the point that the agent told us to get out of her face and leave the building because she had nothing else to do for us. I asked for a refund. Response was you have to call the 800 number. I had no success in getting ahold of the right person on the 800 number that had the authority to authorize the refund. I absolutely would not recommend renting from this particular Hertz location on Getwell Ave in Memphis, TN. Worst service & experience ever! Still trying to get our money back. Stay away from this location.

I cannot convey my disappointment strongly enough. I am both astounded and infuriated by the “service” I received this past week from Hertz, a company that once stood for reliability and exceptional customer service. After booking a car half a month in advance at a Memphis, TN location, I was blindsided just 30 minutes before pickup with the news that there were no cars available. What transpired next was a catastrophic circus of confusion and disappointment. The customer service line first asserted there were "no cars available,” but then proceeded to offer me a mid-sized sedan at my original location, which doesn’t fit with the “no cars available” narrative. However, upon arrival at the pick-up location, the local staff informed me that there were, in fact, no cars at all. The ones I saw ‘available’ online were rented out for insurance claims. I suggested a call to the airport location for their availability, but local staff met that with a cynical, "Oh, the airport won't answer their phone, good luck there." When I attempted the customer service line, they dangled the promise of an available car at the airport, only to snatch it away upon discovering my one-way drop-off requirement (which was clearly outlined in my reservation and booking that Hertz reneged on same-day). Driven to desperation, my search extended to Nashville, a full three hours away from my original Memphis pick-up location. After a tedious call to establish the availability of a truck for one-way, single-day trip, the customer service agent asked if I could be put on hold and severed the call. These are not mere inconveniences but substantial disruptions. Hertz's right hand doesn't have a clue what the left hand is doing. This experience left me questioning the integrity of Hertz, their business ethics, and their commitment to customer satisfaction. If I had not had a support system to fall back on (aka my 71-year-old father-in-law driving 6 hours in a single day to fetch me), I wouldn’t have been able to attend a family wedding—and most folks wouldn’t have that back-up option. How is this ok? Hertz provided zero help in mitigating their failed service, and openly laughed at my attempts to solve it myself. The Better Business Bureau needs to investigate Hertz ASAP.

They refused to accept my payment using Affirm. They stated I needed the credit card I used to rent the car with. I used Affirm. So they refunded (I've yet to receive that) my payment, canceled the reservation, and made me rebook the car using a credit card I had with me. The people working the counter did nothing to help me and made me call the 1-800 line multiple times to fix this. How is this my fault? I spent 2 hours at the airport trying to get a car. I was just charged by Affirm today because they've never received a refund. Someone needs to fix this situation. If Affirm is not an option, they shouldn't offer it.

Ced, the owner and manager of the downtown location, called the day before to confirm the reservation. When he did, he noted that my reservation was needed at the airport, instead of his location. He then confirmed that the airport location would have a car and took care of everything, despite it not being a direct benefit to him. This is outstanding customer service, and a shining example of someone that takes pride in his work. Thank you!

Needed a Standard SUV to pack up my stuff to move 12 hours away. I made the reservation 3 weeks in advance, and I get a call 2 hours before my pickup time saying that they didn't have the vehicle I reserved. They then directed me to another pickup location and changed my reservation without my permission and doubled my daily rental rate. They didn't answer my phone calls, which directed me to the main office in Dallas, and their response was "Sorry sir, we can't change your reservation back". I showed up to the new location and got stuck with a smaller vehicle that didn't have enough room for my belongings. The whole thing has been absolute nonsense. If you don't have the vehicle I reserved, don't have it as an option for me to set up a reservation under.

Thrifty sent a text 30 min ahead offering me to skip the counter by choosing my car. I got “car unavailable - refresh in 15 min”. I did. No car. Again. No car. Went to the place anyway, it got worse. Person at counter said “We don’t have any cars for one-way. I’ll have to call a manager for approval and I’ll call you when we have one. At least 30 minutes.” I never got a call. Never got a car. Since I used Expedia, she said she couldn’t cancel. Since it was after the reservation time, Expedia said (on an app) canceling was not available and no refund.

Couldn’t have been worse. Vehicle wasn’t available until 8PM, despite being confirmed for 9AM. Rep at counter was very rude and unhelpful/unapologetic. Thrifty sucks, don’t use them. Stick with a real rental company, enterprise, hertz, Avis.

I bought from Thrifty on Kayak My "receipt" was from RentalCars.com. It wasn't really a receipt. I had to call Thrifty to make sure they had my car. Also - RentalCars.com has a zero refund policy. Not great customer service. I spent 3-4 hours of my time trying to figure out if I even had a car.
